NCL and Carnival Put Passenger Safety First and Bypass Mazatlan

February 28, 2011

According to a recent article in Travel Pulse, NCL announced that they have canceled stops at Mazatlan and will replace these with a second call at Cabo San Lucas for the Norwegian Star through the April 30 sailing.  This is due to recent violence at the Mazatlan port.  Carnival also cancelled its February 24 call at Mazatlan, but is still investigating the situation to determine future itinerary changes.  The article quoted Carnival as saying, “Carnival is currently gathering information on the incident that occurred [Feb. 22] in Mazatlan,” the line said in a statement. “Until we are able to obtain all of the facts and fully assess the situation, no decision has been made regarding future calls. The safety and security of our guests remains our top priority.”

Cruisers should be prepared for possible itinerary changes and appreciate that they are being made as a precaution to ensure the safety of all guests.
