Budget Family Ski Accommodations in Switzerland

January 27, 2011

It’s not often that I use the words budget and Switzerland in the same sentence.  When booking a place to stay in Switzerland, there are some things you can almost always be sure of: cleanliness, safety, efficiency and most often this comes with with a high price tag.  However, there are a few exceptions to the expense requirement, like the Camping Jungfrau Holiday Park.  This budget family accommodation in Lauterbrunnen enjoys the best Switzerland has to offer but with more basic amenities and without the high price tag.

This holiday park is located in what has to be one of the most beautiful spots in the world.  It is situated in the valley of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains just a stone’s throw away from the impressive Staubbach waterfall.   In winter it’s just a short bus ride to the mountain railways which climb to Wengen/Mannlichen/ Lauberhorn or Murren/Schilthorn and in the summer, it’s the perfect starting point for numerous gorgeous hikes.

The budget family accommodation is open 365 days a year and offers a free bus service to nearby skiing in the winter.  Families are welcome and can stay in cabins, bungalows, campsites or the main lodge with a shared kitchen and shared bathrooms.  Guests can enjoy the onsite restaurant serving typical Swiss food, a game/tv room, an Internet station and a convenience store.  Note that most accommodation feature shared baths, but all is kept very clean for the guests.  Some of the cabins and bungalows require a week’s stay.  We were able to stay in the main lodge for just one night this past summer which was right in the center of the holiday park, close to the restaurant and supermarket.  Price for our room with bunkbeds for four and shared bathrooms was 38 Swiss Francs per adult/per night and 25 Swiss Francs per child/per night.

My children said it was one of their favorite places to stay, ever!   It wasn’t luxurious, but it was clean, comfortable and the location was simply awesome.
